A St. Pete Brewery Tour
While visiting the St. Pete area was on my agenda at some point this winter, I had to make a last-minute trip there to catch a flight back home to mid-Missouri for my grandma’s funeral. I decided to head up there early and make a weekend out of it! If you know me at all, you know that one of my favorite things to do when traveling is to checkout the local craft beer scene, and this trip was no different! Below we’ll take a look at the various breweries that I hit up during my time in St. Pete:
Gulfport Brewery + Eatery
After a long and stressful day of car problems and not even knowing if I was going to be able to get up to St. Pete, I needed some food and a beer! I had done some research before leaving Naples and came across this brewery that also had some delicious sounding food offerings. I started off with their “Berry White” Beer, which is a Strawberry Lemonade Wheat Beer. It was light and refreshing, plus you could taste notes of both strawberry and lemon.

It was so delicious that I ended up having a second glass with my meal, and took advantage of the BOGO deal from my Craftapped subscription. For the meal, I ordered the Roadhouse Tots, which consisted of Truffle Tots covered in Beer Cheese, Steak, Bacon and Scallions! Can you say YUM?!
Beer Name: Berry White
Beer Style: Fruited Wheat Beer
Flavor Profile: Fruity, Tart, Bright, Lemony, Sweet
My Rating: 4.5 Stars ~ Untapped Rating: 3.88 Stars
Mastry’s Brewery
This spot was my favorite of all the breweries I hit up during my time in St. Pete. Not only because of the friendly staff and great atmosphere, but also because it ended up having my favorite beer of the trip, the “Berry Potter” which was a Blueberry Brown Ale. You could easily mistake this for a porter because of the name, but it is a delicious brown ale. Normally you see blueberry paired with a wheat beer, so seeing it with a brown ale was intriguing! I tasted quite a few of their other selections, which weren’t bad, but ended up with several glasses of the Berry Potter while I enjoyed some BLAT! Sliders for lunch. The “A” stands for avocado, and they were delicious! The brown sugar bacon and beer battered fried tomatoes took them to another level!
Beer Name: Berry Potter
Beer Style: Brown Ale
Flavor Profile: Blueberry, Smooth, Nutty, Full Bodied

If I Brewed the World
Due to the fact of not realizing that a lot of places close early on Sundays in St. Pete, I barely made it to this spot in Downtown St. Pete to try their selection of craft beers! They had some unique options that I definitely wanted to try, and luckily, the owner stayed open late so that I could enjoy a second beer (I wasn’t the only one there, he still had people trying to come in as I was leaving.) Here I had the Caramel Apple Wheat Beer, which was delicious, but a little too sweet for more than one glass at a time, and the Pumpkin Amber, which was also amazing! This place also has a secret door that’s a bookcase, which I absolutely loved, and that’s where the bathrooms are.

Beer Name: Caramel Apple
Beer Style: Sour
Flavor Profile: Apple, Caramel, Tart, Spiced, Sweet

Pinellas Ale Works
At this point, I had planned to get some more food, but unfortunately, these breweries didn’t have any, and they were closing early so I couldn’t break for food and come back later. This brewery also had a great selection, my favorite being “The French Toast Thief”. It was honestly amazing how they got all those flavors into an amber beer; you could seriously taste the notes of maple, butter, egg and toast with every sip! Amazing! The other selection I had here was the Price’s Horchata Cinnamon Vanilla Rice Ale, which was very unique. The fall and winter flavored beers are always some of my favorites!

Beer Style: Amber
Flavor Profile: Sweet, Maple, Caramelly

Dissent Craft Brewing Company
This cute little spot was just minutes from my Airbnb that I stayed in after my return trip to Florida. They had a lot of IPA’s which I am not a fan of, but I did find some options to try! I ended up with a glass of the Blueberry Marshmallow Berliner Weisse and then one of the Gingerbread Berliner Weisse. Neither of them were too sour. The blueberry one had plenty of blueberry, but I didn’t really get notes of marshmallow at all. The gingerbread one was good, but odd, you would think gingerbread would pair better with an amber or a brown ale, but it was still tasty!
Beer Name: Blueberry Marshmallow Berliner Weisse
Beer Style: Sour
Flavor Profile: Blueberry, Tart, Sour, Creamy, Marshmallow

Pee-Pa’s Garage Craft Brewery
As far as the atmosphere, this place would have been my favorite. Unfortunately, the beer was just mediocre. I started with the Pumpkin Spice Pit Stop, which was a pumpkin spice flavored brown ale. Although I’ve had better pumpkin beers, this one was quite delicious! I was going to mix it up and asked for samples of several of their other beers, and they were all bland to me, so I ended back up with more of the Pumpkin Spice Pit Stop. The pizza food truck and the live music they had was great! There was also a rolled ice cream food truck, that ended up being for a private party, but someone wasn’t going to use their ticket, so I got free ice cream as I was leaving!

Beer Style: Brown Ale
Flavor Profile: Malty, Pumpkin, Spiced, Balanced

Overall it was a successful brewery tour in the St. Pete area! There are so many talented craft brewers popping up everywhere, and the St. Pete area has no shortage. There were a variety of unique beers for everyone’s palette. I am not an IPA or dark beer drinker, but if I were, there were some delicious sounding beers in those categories as well! Be sure to checkout some of these local breweries next time you’re in the St. Pete area!
